Where It's At. I Got Two Computers and I Work From Home.
My home office has one monitor, wireless keyboard and mouse. The problem is that I have two laptops: a personal laptop and my work laptop. It wasn't that big of a deal when my work laptop stayed at the office most of the time.
Not so much anymore.
The Struggle Is Real
Now, when I want to use either laptop with the full-size monitor, keyboard, and mouse it means I have to unplug the monitor from one laptop and plug it into the other. I then must do the same with the keyboard and mouse USB stick. Finally, I wait a few seconds for the screens to re-calibrate. Meanwhile, there is almost always a near disastrous spill of coffee all over the desk, papers, and electronics.
The struggle is real.
The Solution
Then it hit me. When I worked full-time from home a number of years ago, I used a handy device called a KVM switch, which stands for Keyboard, Video, Mouse. It allows you to share a single keyboard, monitor, and mouse across two laptops or computers. Problem solved.
A KVM Switch is a great solution for a current problem and it keeps productivity high.
The one I have looks like this:
And works like this:
When you need to switch laptops you hit the Switch button on the KVM device or, even better, rapidly press Scroll Lock twice and then either number 1 or 2, depending upon which laptop you want to use.
It’s a great solution for a current problem and keeps productivity high.
One Final Question
I got two computers and I work from home. Where it's at? You can pick up a KVM Switch from Amazon or your favorite electronic store.
